You are not stuck in the traffic, you are stuck being a part of the traffic
I don’t think I am going out on a limb here when I say most of us are not too fond of traffic. In fact, I’ve never met anyone who got excited about driving through areas of dense traffic (except for the occasional suicidal cyclist who enjoys weaving through the cars). I’m safely going to assume that you feel the same.
Why do we hate traffic - it slows us down, we lose control as to when we will get to our destination, we lose the freedom to drive how we would like, we see the fumes from the car in front. We know that in all those other cars are people who are competing with you for space on the road.
But hang on….we love our cars - symbols of freedom, control, speed and independence.
So what do we love and what do we hate?????
This left me understandably bewildered. Do we not realize that we are part of the traffic? Did we invent the word traffic, so that we didn’t have to say I hate cars? After all, that’s all traffic is!!!!!
Maybe I’m missing something. I guess I’ll just keep weaving around the traffic on my bicycle until someone can enlighten me.

I love weaving through the cars! That’s the best part for a cyclist, seeing all those faces stucked in their car while you feel the wind on your face.

hey jacq.
SO here is what frustrates me about sydney traffic.
Centred around glebe:
going up north to ryde - traffic is pretty much a given because of the amount of people going that direction and the amounts of traffic lights up in lane cove.
With the development of the lane cove tunnel, and the cut back of the amount of lanes to practically one, i think what frustrated me was bad traffic as a result of an attempt at devious planning.
Its the same with the cross city tunnel.
Across the centre of sydney, all the one way streets and little tricky passages that i knew so well to get me to the eastern suburbs were suddenly all diverted into the cross city tunnel.
I dont personally have a problem with the construction of these tunnels, its just that it irks me hugely that not only do they pass on their bad budgeting to drivers (isnt it something like 5 dollars one way now?), but that they actually deviously divert traffic into their tunnels, which actually do not make driving across sydney all that much faster.
SO
If these tunnels were there but not as a compulsory drive, then i think traffic would be better. Seriously one lane on lane cove road?
Well at least the traffic in australia isnt as bad as london.
I have to say though, living in London where traffic isnt such an issue due to my lack of car, and use of public transport, i do feel as if i have lost some freedom - i cant drive to another city on a whim, nor can i just whip to the outskirts to buy some random ingredient, I am somewhat restricted to places with a tube or bus stop which is not so great. So that is what i love and hate about cars.
