Wishlists of cyclists

Everyone who rides in Sydney has at least one dream of how they would like to improve the infrastructure they are using everyday.  There is a lot of improving to be done, and even when authorities have a chance to promote cycling, they often don’t know what are causing the problems and where are the easy leverage points that would make our life slightly more blissful.  I urge you to use the comments box to write down your dreams for cycling infrastructure in Sydney - it can be as feasible or fanciful as you like.  Let’s limit it to five points so we don’t get too carried away.  I will start with mine….

  1. Smooth out the sides of the pram ramps that are heavily used by cyclists so it’s not as unsafe for cyclists to ride up it from an angle - such ramps include - the one near moore park road on Anzac Pde and the one near the steep ramp and bridge on the way to the harbour bridge from the south
  2. All pedestrian/cyclist lights should go green every phase during peak periods and all the time for lights where there is no conflict with road traffic when the pedestrian light is green
  3. Clearly design intersections at the ends of bike paths where cyclists are expected to join traffic - an example is the Anzac Pde bike path, where you join with traffic on Flinders St or Fitzroy St
  4. Smooth out and widen the path that parallels Cleveland Street between Anzac Pde and South Dowling Street
  5. Improve the safety of the south entrance to the harbour bridge so that people can pass without the need to lose momentum
